NY7s Saturday Night
Hey guys, this is a vibe page for an event that I wanted to go to Saturday night or Sunday morning in NYC. It's on my personal page, so I can embed samplers for all the DJs for you to scroll and listen through. This isn't set in stone, just a proposal at this point.
The event page is on Resident Advisor below.
The event is at Nowadays, which is in Bushwick in Brooklyn. It's a restaurant turned club at night, and it's pretty well known in my circles, with some of their resident DJs even coming up to Montréal to mix (Ayesha comes to mind). The event starts Saturday evening, and goes all the way until the end the night on Sunday.
Generally, the space is a good place to go either early (pre 11PM) or late/early (after 5AM).
Sorry Axel, this ain't no country bar, it's once again, electronic music.
Tickets could be free, but require you to show up early, and there's a risk of not getting due to capacity. Though, for these events, there's always a risk of being denied entry if you have bad vibes. Though, this venue is pretty easy.
This isn't a big-G “Gay” space, as in, it's queer as in accepting, but it's not gay-man exclusive. It's a space to be yourself and enjoy music first and foremost, not live-action Grindr with shitty circuit music.
Speaking of music, let's get into that. Here's the schedule, starting from Saturday:
- 22:00 - 02:00 SCRAAATCH
- 02:00 - 06:00 DJ Marcelle
- 06:00 - 09:00 Baby Leo
- 09:00 - 13:00 dBridge
- 13:00 - 16:00 Analog Soul
- 16:00 - 19:00 Monty Luke
- 19:00 - close Beautiful Swimmers
SCRAAATCH (22:00 - 02:00)
Night starts off with a DJ who's known for good DJ club mixes, but isn't afraid to blend genres. Seems like a good time, high energy, something for everyone.
DJ Marcelle (02:00 - 06:00)
Who is this diva? She's everything. Truly, her mixes are… all over the place and definitely more of a musical innovator than a simple entertainer. The timestamp 32:20 onward… what the fuck? LOL.
Baby Leo (06:00 - 09:00)
Personally, not a fan of this DJ. I can't pinpoint the genre, but it's the same bouncy noise that permeates Montréal's electronic music scene right now… and I find it incredibly boring. It's a grab bag, and most of it is, whatever. Time slot is for people zootered so, guess it works for them.
dBridge (09:00 - 13:00)
This DJ is a bit all over the place, but significantly more coherent than Baby Leo. But, he's a clear DnB (Drum and Bass) DJ. A genre that isn't everyone's cup of tea, but at the very least most people will agree, it's a genre that's full of energy. The transition from 34:00 onward is interesting.
Analogue Soul (13:00 - 16:00)
Boiler Room gets a lot of hate, but it has a consistent vibe across genres: energy. Good to have a headliner who's played at a Boiler Room. Listen below and get in the groove.
Monty Luke (16:00-19:00)
A new discovery for me. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I liked this DJ. Not as high-energy house as Analogue Soul, but always nice to have some variety. Something to start the night out early on a Sunday.
Beautiful Swimmers (19:00 - close)
Some more good House. This time, a more groovy variety. Hearing soul and disco samples, and it's a good time writing this while listening to this mix. Some moments to catch your breath, and others to get your heart rate up, but not too much. It's house, afterall. Seems like a great way to end a 24 hour long party.
